American Legion Post 9 Remembers Gary Allen Wade, Former Post Adjutant

American Legion Post 9 mourns the passing of Gary Allen Wade, 81, of St. Simons Island, who passed away on September 27, 2026. Gary served our Post for several years as Post Adjutant, and his dedication to Post 9 and our members will not be forgotten.

Gary was born in Akron, Ohio. After graduating high school, he worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., where he met his wife of 61 years, Ginger. He volunteered to serve in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. After his discharge, Gary served as a police officer in Akron, Ohio, before going on to a career with FLETC in Maryland and Georgia.

Gary's years of service — to his country, his community, and his fellow Legionnaires — reflect the very best of what it means to be a member of the American Legion. Our thoughts are with his wife Ginger and his family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Gary. Thank you for your service — to your country and to Post 9.
