On October 28, American Legion Post 9 in Brunswick opened its doors to honor the brave men and women who serve Glynn County as first responders. Firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, dispatchers, and public safety professionals from across the area were welcomed into the Post home for a hearty lunch and heartfelt thanks.

In total, more than 50 meals were served during the midday event. Guests were treated to a home-cooked Southern spread that included pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, and baked beans—all lovingly prepared by Post volunteers. The aroma of smoked pork and savory sides filled the building, setting the stage for an afternoon of fellowship and appreciation.
“This was about more than just food,” said one volunteer. “It was about showing our gratitude for the people who run toward emergencies when the rest of us are running away. These folks are part of the backbone of our community.”
The lunch was not only a gesture of thanks—it was a reflection of the American Legion’s commitment to community service. In line with the principles set forth in the Legion's preamble, Post 9 continues to foster goodwill and a spirit of mutual support among those who serve, whether in uniform or as first responders at home.
Post Commander and members of the Executive Committee were on hand to greet attendees, share stories, and express the Post’s deep appreciation. “We know the sacrifices these men and women make,” said the Post 9 Commander. “Today was about feeding them a good meal and letting them know we see them, we value them, and we’ve got their backs.”
Brunswick Post 9 extends a sincere thank you to all who serve our community—and looks forward to continuing this tradition of support in the years ahead.
